There are numerous advantages to becoming a citizen of Singapore. Singapore is considered one of the most peaceful countries in the world, with a high quality of life, high-paying employment, and an accessible healthcare system. If this is insufficient, a Singapore passport allows for visa-free travel to 189 countries.
Access to all of these benefits, as well as additional ones, is guaranteed by obtaining Singaporean citizenship. The obligations of a Singaporean, such as completing National Service and adhering to the Exit Permit, will also be transferred to you at the same time.
In order to complete this process, you must meet the citizenship application requirements. Please bear in mind that obtaining Singaporean citizenship is not an instantaneous process. The process extends over several months, and this does not account for the years that you may be required to spend as a Pass Holder and Permanent Resident prior to applying. Not all individuals are eligible to apply for Singaporean citizenship in this regard.
If you are at least 21 years old and have been a Permanent Resident for a minimum of two years at the time of application, you are eligible to apply for Singaporean citizenship. You can apply jointly if you have a spouse and children under 21 who are not married.
Things are not any different if you have been a permanent resident for at least two years and are the spouse of a Singapore citizen. At least two years must have passed since you were married. If you are a student in Singapore and possess a Permanent Residence Permit, you may also complete the application form.
However, you must meet a few citizenship application requirements. You must have resided in Singapore for a minimum of one year, held a Residence Permit for over three years, and either passed at least one national exam or be enrolled in the Integrated Program (IP).
When applying for Singaporean citizenship, it is necessary to submit a variety of documents for each applicant in order to substantiate your application, depending on the circumstance. Foreign ID cards, valid passports, birth certificates, family documents, educational documents, employment documents, and a photograph that complies with Singapore’s photo requirements are among the documents that are required.
If you are an adult who is self-applying, you are required to submit the aforementioned documents for both yourself and your spouse, regardless of whether they are accompanying you. Bear in mind that this is not an exhaustive list of documents, and the ICA may request additional documentation after reviewing your application.
